The Henry Blosser House & Barn

Heartland Historic Homes was privileged to develop, design and curate this National Register of Historic Places project.

This restoration, accomplished through the use of historic tax credits, is the 2019 winner of the McReynolds Award from Missouri Preservation for excellence in historic preservation. Carolyn Elman and the late Dr. Arthur Elman restored the 1874 Second Empire-style manor house and 1860 Swiss-style barn in Malta Bend, Missouri. Prior to Elman’s purchase of the property, the Henry Blosser House & Barn had been named a “Most Endangered Historic Place” in 2014 by Missouri Preservation and Missouri Governor Jay Nixon. The four-year project has contributed to the economic growth of Saline County and Missouri in general and was made possible because of state and national historic tax credits.

Award For Excellence in Historic Preservation

The Henry Blosser House and Farm in the Malta Bend vicinity of Saline County, Missouri is significant as a fine local example of an elegant American Manor House constructed in the Second Empire style of architecture.

It was also the home of one of the county’s most well-to-do and substantial farmers, Henry Blosser. In the 1800s, it was the center of it’s own small village. The Village of Blosser included a blacksmith shop, livery stable, school, chapel and railroad stop.

Missouri Legislature Awards Dr. Arthur & Carolyn Elman For Historic Restoration of the Henry Blosser Estate

Dr. Arthur and Carolyn Elman of Kansas City would like to thank the entire Heartland Historic Homes Team and their project contributors for the restoration of the historic 1878 Henry Blosser House & Swiss Horse Barn, Malta Bend, Missouri. The couple received awards from the Missouri Senate and House of Representatives for the four-year restoration of the Blosser Estate near the Historic Village of Arrow Rock. The barn will soon open as an exclusive event facility. Bill Hart, Missouri Alliance for Historic Preservation, presented The McReynolds Award to the group.
